Home Main Areas AIM Airport EM Environment
Safe flight operations are based on secure electromagnetic signals propagation in the air. Airports and their surrounding environments contain a lot of electromagnetic radiating equipment as well as many reflecting surfaces. This electromagnetic propagation and eventually interference presence (EMI) can affect the performance of communications, navigation and surveillance (CNS) equipment and therefore reduce safety. These effects also need to be taken into account when placing a new NAVAID as incorrect positioning could cause a shadow effect.
IDS AirNav Electromagnetic Airport Control and Survey (EMACS) provides computerized electromagnetic modeling of both the airport itself as well as the environment around it and can aid in identifying the performance of CNS equipment and also aid in optimizing NAVAID placement.
